Supported Housing

The Haybarn is the first phase of the Barns Project, the new Supported Housing Accommodation for vulnerable children and their mothers. Currently four one-bedroom units are available.

The purpose of the new accommodation is to provide:
  • assistance for vulnerable mothers during their pregnancy and in the early stages of looking after a baby;
  • support to enable a mother to sustain care for her child in order to move on to independent living;
  • counsel, advice and support to mothers considering adoption for their child
  • support for the needs of children at risk of harm and their mothers, affected by family conflict.
The apartments provide the flexibility of independence together with the option of shared activities and social events. Play facilities are provided for the children, and residents have access to the main Centre for parenting sessions and group work. Access to education, job training, benefit advice etc. will also be facilitated. The average stay is between 3 and 6 months, during which time the most vulnerable families will be supported and guided as they prepare to move back into society.

The completion of the Supported Housing provision is one of our 20th Anniversary Projects, and will see the addition of three two-bedroom apartments.
